HOW TO GET BEST RESULTS WHEN WASHING AND GROOMING YOUR DOG WITH ROSES PRODUCTS
We all love our dogs very much and want them to be healthy and look their best, with a well-groomed and great looking coat. This does not come easy, to achieve this requires regular brushing and occasional washing dependent on how many times your adventurous and sometimes naughty dog manages to get dirty when out on walks with you, or up to mischief in your home.
Start as you mean to go on……..
When you first welcome your puppy into your family, start your grooming sessions immediately, they need not be long sessions simply a few minutes getting them used to being brushed and washed. Time spent when they are young will make the grooming of them as they get older much easier and more rewarding for you and your dog.
Keeping your dog well groomed, can be challenging brushing on at least a weekly basis, for many dogs is sufficient, but some breeds such as Bichon Frise or Pomeranian can require brushing every other day to keep in great condition and looking beautiful. Regular brushing also aids your dogs health and well-being by ensuring that their coat is free of mats, knots and tangles, and also if you have a dog which sheds in Spring and Autumn it will help reduce the amount of dead coat left in your apartment and again stop tangles and mats developing.
On occasions they will require a full shampoo and wash, but please be sparing with these as too frequent washing can result in loss of oils in the coat making it appear dull. We recommend where possible to wash weekly at most and ideally every two weeks
We would also recommend a visit to your local Grooming Parlour for trimming of coat and clipping of nails when required, plus a wash and groom, the frequency of these visits are dependent on your dog’s needs but will normally be between 4 and 8 weeks. This is also a good time to ask questions of your groomer on how you can achieve even better washing and grooming results, or if you have any concerns regarding your dog’s health.
So, to maintain your dog in Top condition we recommend the following:-

Washing your dog.
Always before washing your dog we recommend giving a good brush of their coat, making sure there are no mats, tangles or knots in their fur. If you find any knots, mats, or tangles please ensure you tease these out before washing, because they will become impossible to remove once they become wet. This may take time and requires you to be patient and gentle, but it is essential for your dog’s well-being and good health.
To wash your dog, use the shower, or bath, (do not forget to use non-slip shower mat) and please ensure the water is a comfortable temperature not too hot or too cold. If you use the sink in your home please do ensure that they are secure and cannot jump out and hurt themselves. We would always recommend you use a shower attachment, but if no shower attachment gently pour warm water over your dog to thoroughly wet its coat and then apply the shampoo and knead it thoroughly into the coat. Now this is important when rinsing the shampoo out you must ensure that all shampoo is rinsed away as any residue can cause itchiness. Another key point we would make is to avoid getting shampoo into the eyes and keep the inside of ears away from shampoo and water. A good technique here is to start washing your dog from the back of its head down towards its tail this will minimise the risk of getting water and soap in their ears.
If using a conditioner, and with many dog’s a conditioner will give you excellent results with a wonderful shiny coat, repeat rinsing process and again make sure the conditioner is thoroughly rinsed out of the coat.
Special note all Rose’s Shampoo’s have a conditioning element to them, and we would recommend that you use all our range in rotation as each shampoo will bring different benefits to your dogs skin and coat.
When coat is thoroughly rinsed it is time to dry, firstly remove most of the excess water with the Mega Absorbent PVA Towel. Technique is important here dab or pat the coat dry, squeezing out the towel regularly to ensure the maximum absorbency of the towel, and continue until all excess moisture is removed. Once all surplus water is removed then wrap your dog in a Roses Large Microfibre Towel gently patting the dog all over until the coat is as dry as possible. Never vigorously rub the coat dry with the towels as this will cause knots, mats and tangles to develop.
To thoroughly Dry and Brush your dog, connect your Roses Grooming and Drying Brush, set it on medium heat and low speed and start Brushing and Drying the coat, always brushing with the fur not against it, there is no correct place to start but the key advice we would give here is to ensure the whole coat is dry particularly around the base of the tail and around the ears. Ensure all the coat is brushed through and dry and if your dogs is a little anxious at first encourage with treats, and soothing and gentle words of encouragement. Once your dog is familiarised and comfortable with your Roses Grooming and Drying Brush you can increase the heat setting to full and increase the speed to high, but note when drying around the eyes and ears only use medium heat and low power. The permanent IONIC feature will ensure great condition to your dog’s coat and always give you great results when using a conditioner.
The choice of Brush head to use varies from Dog to Dog but generally we recommend the large square head for large areas such as sides and back, the oval brush head for use around the ears tail etc and the round rush head for under the chin and tops of front legs, but once you have used the tool a few times you will develop your own technique and use brush heads which you feel give you the best results.
We know that following these simple instructions you will soon be getting great results and you and your dog will enjoy these sessions which can help create an excellent bond between you and your dog and of course keep them looking great and smelling good most of the time.
Following a wet walk, you can also follow these guidelines if not dirty no need to shampoo, simply towel dry as outlined here and dry off with the Roses Grooming and Drying Brush, and after cold winter walks your dog will welcome being dry and warm.
We look forward to hearing your experiences and of course receiving pictures of your dog after your Grooming and Pampering Sessions
