How to keep your pet calm this bonfire night

Fireworks season is the most stressful time of the year for our four-legged friends. So, help to keep them calm this bonfire night with some of our handy hints and tips.

1. Build a den

Give your pet a little space to unwind away from all the banging and booming of the outside world by building a little cosy den.

We’d recommend putting lots of soft blankets, toys and treats in there to make them feel comforted.

If you’re not sure where to start, here’s a great how-to video you can follow.

2. Pre-night walk

Why not take your pooch for a little walk before nightfall?

This way Fido’s able to stretch his legs before the fireworks and will help for him to feel less on edge when the time comes.

3. Distractions, distractions, distractions

Keep your pup’s attention off the outside world by keeping the TV on, or alternatively stick the radio on for them.

4. Shut it out

Make sure your windows and doors are sealed properly to help block out any unwanted noise.

We’d also recommend closing the curtains to help black out any scary flashes of light that might make your pets a little jittery.

5. Give lots of love

As your pets may feel very anxious about the fireworks they may be a lot more withdrawn than usual.

We’d recommend giving them plenty of cuddles and head tickles to help make them feel reassured.

6. Feed a little earlier

As your pets will be more anxious than usual, we’d recommend feeding them a little earlier than usual.

Sometimes the anxiety over the bangs and squeals of bonfire night can make your pup lose his appetite.
