Four Paws Groom School Expansion great for people and pets!

For 3 years, Four Paws Groom School in Kent has been teaching the art of dog grooming either as a new career or for owners to groom their own dogs at home. During this time, hundreds of pooches have been pampered but due to the mass increase in ‘lockdown puppies’, the school has seen a surge in demand and has now expanded to a second building on their farm location in Westwell Leacon, Ashford.

Director Sarah Sturley says “Grooming is a fundamental part of maintaining a pets health and welfare. We have students travel from across the country wanting to gain our award winning qualifications but the dogs and cats we groom are local to our base.  Our business growth is a boost to the local area and has enabled us to employ 2 more grooming tutors. We now have the space to cater for even more people and their pets!”

Fellow Director Fern Gresty adds “With a student groom at just £25 per dog we also offer an affordable solution for pet owners who maybe feeling the pinch in the current climate. These grooms give our students opportunity to enhance their skills before gaining employment in the industry or setting up their own businesses.”

There are an estimated 43 million pets in the UK including 12 million dogs. This equates to 59% of UK homes having a pet which is up from 45% pre-Covid. Industry experts predict 6,000 more dog groomers will be needed to support our nations pets by 2023 so there has never been a better time to train for a new career in the animal industry. However, with dog grooming looking to become a regulated industry, Four Paws Groom School advise to seek Ofqual regulated qualifications to safeguard against potential licence restrictions.

“We would fully support regulation of the dog grooming industry as a measure to ensure welfare standards are maintained. As in other animal professions, this may include an Ofqual regulated qualification to achieve the higher standards and so we are proud to offer iPET Network qualifications which are a big tick in this box. So whether you are a total novice or an experienced groomer, we have courses and qualifications for all.”
