Course Details
About this course
This qualification has been developed to provide an entry-level introduction to working in a dog grooming salon, specifically focusing on the role of assisting a professional dog groomer. It helps Learners gain an understanding of the duties and expectations within a salon environment, including key responsibilities, relevant legislation, and the types of practical tasks they may be asked to complete while working under supervision.
The programme also introduces essential underpinning knowledge such as basic canine anatomy and physiology, fundamental first aid awareness, recognising potential hazards, and carrying out simple risk assessments. Learners will also gain an overview of common grooming tools and equipment used in a salon. As part of the qualification, practical activities are included, allowing Learners to develop hands-on experience in areas such as safe dog handling, bathing, drying and brushing.
Compared with the broader Level 3 dog grooming qualifications, this Award offers a shorter and more focused programme with a strong practical emphasis. This makes it particularly suitable for individuals who are new to the industry or who may not yet feel ready to progress directly to a Level 3 qualification. It can also be appealing to younger Learners, including those who are home educated or looking to begin their learning journey in the animal care sector at an earlier stage. By combining theoretical knowledge with practical skill development, the qualification supports Learners in building the confidence and abilities expected within a professional grooming environment.
The Award can act as a stepping stone for those wishing to progress onto Level 3 dog grooming qualifications, although it is not a mandatory requirement for entry.
Elements of this qualification align with aspects of the Level 2 Dog Groomer Apprenticeship Standard (ST0943), incorporating selected knowledge, skills and behaviours. However, it does not cover the full apprenticeship standard and should not be considered a replacement for the apprenticeship programme. For further information, please contact iPET Network.
